Map of the study area within (a) Africa and (b) Tanzania. Pastoralist household surveys and focus groups were conducted in rural villages bordering Ruaha National Park in Pawaga and Idodi divisions of Iringa Rural District, Iringa Region, Tanzania. The northern study division (Pawaga) is characterized by semi-arid savannah vegetation while miombo woodlands dominate the less arid southern division (Idodi).
