A stockpond in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cattle have grazed off the vegetation at the edge of the pond and muddied the water. Both conditions are now believed benefit of the endangered California tiger salamander. When bullfrogs are absent, stockponds are also crucial habitat for the threatened red-legged frog (Rana draytonii ) (United States Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service 2006).
